Lisa Derksen
Lisa Derksen Biography

Congo 2008 DR Congo

Lisa Derksen is from Winnipeg, Manitoba. She is a student at Canadian Mennonite University, where she is studying Social Sciences and Biblical/Theological studies

Her days are kept busy with school, work (running kids and youth programs in the inner city), leading senior high youth, working with Lloyd and Carol Letkeman on the ACTION Mobilization team, and going for coffee with friends.

Lisa loves to travel and experience new cultures. She also enjoys a good thunderstorm and driving through the prairies.

Here’s what she says about her experience as a photographer on the mission field:

As I keep going out on different short term mission trips, I am learning that there is something beautiful about the global church, and that there is this cross-cultural exchange that happens in mission - we learn from each other. Taking photos lets me tell the story of what God is doing around the world, and hopefully these photos will open up our eyes here in North America to the beauty of God that is only found in another culture.

Photographs open the door for us to pray, and to intercede on behalf of the nations. The faces of real people inspire us to fall on our knees and call out to God to bring restoration and healing to people that we may have never met.

I love that photos tell the story of the diversity of God's people; capturing on camera the face of a Congolese woman or the eyes of a kid in North End Winnipeg reminds me that the body of Christ extends far beyond one's skin color or nationality.
